AI: partnership between Amazon, Facebook, Google, IBM and Microsoft. What about Apple?

by | Oct 25, 2016

Artificial intelligence has been a hot topic for several years and finally the big companies are starting to realize this and to formalize the will to invest in this field. This time it’s the turn of the giants of technology: Facebook, Amazon, Google, IBM and Microsoft.

These companies, together at the same table, have met to sign a historical agreement “Partnership on Artificial Intelligence to Benefit People and Society”.  <<A development opportunities for health, education, transport and public welfare>> points out Horvitz of Microsoft Research.

The basis for this agreement is the desire to take action on issues such as ethics, fairness, inclusiveness, transparency, privacy, and interoperability, thanks to technological development in the field of artificial intelligence.

The absence of a particularly giant stood out: Apple decided not to join the partnership and to move forward alone. What is the reason for this decision?

The operations will be led by a board of directors made up of representatives of each of the founding companies, all results will be made public so that the entire community can benefit from them. We’ll see in the coming months the developments of this alliance and its fruits in the field of artificial intelligence democratization.
